The Price of Eggs
They say this is all because eggs cost too much.
But it’s more than that.
Many expected their eggs over easy
or sunny side up
or a fine cheese omelet
or Easter eggs filled with chocolate.
Some had illusions of Fabergé riches.
But instead the eggs are hard-boiled
or scrambled into submission
or poached without permission
or basted with buttery promises
or deviled with peppery praise
or pickled with acidic intent.
Others just fall like Humpty Dumpty.
It’s a high price to pay.
