Mountain Zen

Mountain Zen

Sunrise and all of life reacts
to the burst of light,
except the mountains staring stoically
as the darkness disappears.

They watch while life and death
shake the planets calm,
but the peaks fear nothing.

The mountains endured
their own birth.
Pulled from the magma,
through the planet’s birth canal,
the earth tore itself from itself.

They changed the direction
of the winds, made the weather
heel to their presence.

Yes, the mountains stand content:
pleased to be the first
to feel the rain,
to be touched by the clouds,
to be closest to heaven.
