Windsong

Windsong

Walking among towering fall trees,
Saffron and russet leaves,
Moss-covered bark.
I try to follow the path to where music plays.
Looking up to where sunlight falls
Between us
The wind's breath carries a song.
Nostalgia wraps me in a leaf
In breath
In birdsong.
As I listen to the hum of a woodthrush
Its low pitch notes
And final tinny trill
I think of my sister playing the flute,
Silvery notes and pauses
Breath like
Wind and windsong.
