Verses for a Goddess
For Ashley Acheleke
I
You carry the sun within your skin,
its glow radiant and warm,
a testament to the richness of the soil from which you spring.
Your smile is a doorway to joy,
wide and unrestrained, as though it holds the music of your people.
I see the beads draped around you,
each color whispering a story,
a heritage of resilience and grace.
In your eyes, the strength of mountains and rivers flows,
a soul as vast as the plains of your homeland.
II
The morning light kneels before you,
as if unworthy to touch your radiant skin.
Your bare form holds the purity of dawn,
unveiled, untouched by the haste of the world.
Your smile rises with the sun,
warming the earth and softening the winds.
Each smile, a hymn to nature's artistry,
each gesture, a rhythm that stirs the day awake.
You are the promise of beauty renewed,
the morning's first breath of wonder.
III
These ears itch for the break of the seventh day,
after the sun dives into the horizon
The heavens clad in dark drapers,
As eloquence noisily occupies the atmosphere
The gentle syllables across the phone,
cat walking upon a blissful tongue; runway of therapy,
walking into the corridors of my ears with soothing gracefulness.
The world sits still at equinox, the ‘tick’ stops ‘tocking’
both ends, drunk in verbal liquor of mirthfulness
ideas stretch their limbs, experiences brag--shoulders high,
tales heap upon each other
should a panther’s swipe rip the hymen within these eyes
to behold this goddess--a missing claw to his spine?
To a goddess, these lines bequeathed.
