A Vintner's List Poem
Why a vintner could whine…
Two years ago…
A late May frost, devastating
Vines traumatized
Vintner shows angst
Hungry birds swoop in,
Snack of the vines,
Vintner gets nervous
Half a harvest
Vintner is bummed
The next year…
Vintner starts year anxious
Vines do some bouncing back
A hungry bear visits
Snacking birds return
A thousand-year storm hits
Flooding everywhere
Harvest lost
Vintner gets depressed
But puts on happy face
The year after that…
Plans put in place for relief,
Just in case,
Weather is good,
Though a bit dry,
Vintner sets harvest date
Three bears visit
Vintner shoots rubber buckshot
One bear doesn't come back
Vintner not expecting much
Harvest surprising, though it could be better
Time to make the wine.
