After my father left the army, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska. His first corporate job was in Canton, Ohio where my sister Cindy was born. When he was transferred to New York City, my family moved to Stamford, Connecticut. My father took the commuter train to his office in the Chrysler Building. He became a highly respected business executive in the photocopier industry. My mother joined him on business trips to every continent except Antarctica. They cruised the coasts of Ireland and Italy, toured temples in Thailand and Cambodia, traveled to the Great Wall in China and Uluru/Ayers Rock in Australia, and went on safaris in South Africa where they saw elephants, rhinos, lions, and giraffes.
My mother went back to school after raising her three children. She studied computer science at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut. She then started her own business, Simple Solutions, providing tech support to clients in the real estate industry and helping friends and family with their computers, too.
My mother was raised in the Christian Science Sunday School. My father grew up as a Lutheran. He became a Christian Scientist, too. My mother and father didn’t drink or smoke, and they worked out life problems and had many healings through prayer. They brought my brother, sister, and me to the Christian Science Sunday School where they taught for more than fifty years—always driving their students back and forth, taking them to lunch, treating them like their own children.
