In Eden, a Glory
Faith is what we've got left
a laser beam through benighted coves.
A heart rejoices in its own heart,
over the marvels of this earth,
And even over things that hath.
This beam of light: let it shine bright,
its legs elude the sizing tame of men.
May it be enlivened over the conquest of earth,
And even fructify at its own behest.
I've seen things-a glory in Eden
I've seen things–a darkness traversing,
I've seen things–a glory lodged in my roof,
and a rising of light besetting dawn.
Oh yes, the air confides me its covenant
the fig tree bowed to its first fruits
and all soils sang to its remembering.
I saw old rivers with inward rush
And faces of those who tilled paradise.
Faith is still our inheritance,
not creed but current,
not proof but pulse.
This is I a glory,
a glory restored,
a garden reborn.
