“Just Sit Right Back and Hear a Tale” or “The Ones that Got Away”

“Just Sit Right Back and Hear a Tale” or,
 “The Ones that Got Away”

In liquid light and mid-day hush,
Day-lilies softly pray.
Amid the rushes that sway and dance,
My thoughts just drift away.

I flick my fly into the stream,
Floating above the deep,
My mind’s hook drifts down through the waves,
Where notions begin to seep.

A little fish like poem swims,
Pearlescent in my mind,
In the inky-cursive-eddy flow,
Beneath my braided line.

Reflect on words, scale, fin and verse;
Where in the flow of thought,
A wondrous shiny creature hides,
Avoiding being caught.

In a dance of catch and release,
With lines of verse and fishes,
Each stanza, a deep and peaceful place,
Where freely swim my wishes.

In the alluring late day sun,
Dragon flies swoop and play.
I gather up my daily catch,
And turn to walk away.
