The Communion of Dogs
The Communion of Dogs
The dog four doors down is barking
Mine is sleeping
The dog next door starts to bark
Mine rushes to the window and barks as well
Someone is walking down the street
Could be a six-year-old walking home from school
Could be a madman with a gun
Could be me
Doesn’t make any difference
Strange dogs treat each other with distrust
Barking at each other as they approach
But they’re joined today in a common purpose
Alerting us all to the presence of a new presence
Voices united
In the communion of dogs
